Irish company offering mortgages to buy property in the north

A COMPANY in Ireland has begun offering mortgages to Irish and British citizens to buy property in the north of the island. Global Mortgages Direct describes itself as Irelands first international mortgage brokerage specialist. It provides mortgages to people for buying property in Turkey, Bulgaria, Poland, Morocco, USA, Spain, France, Portugal, Italy and Egypt. It also plans to launch the service for Germany, Cape Verde & Romania, the company said on its website. In an email to prospective clients, the company said it was “proud to announce Mortgages for Northern Cyprus for both Irish & UK Citizens”.
“This will be the first of a series of products that we are busily working on over the next six to 12 months for Northern Cyprus. We are accepting clients now,” it added.

It is unknown how many Irish people may have property in the north but Global Mortgages Direct’s Mark Gannon told the Cyprus Mail yesterday they had see a lot of interest in the north of Cyprus. Asked if he was aware of the legal implications for clients who might buy property in the north, Gannon said he had received some queries on the issue. However he said it was not the company’s business.

“What we do is facilitate mortgages,” he said, adding that if a client was buying property in the north it was an issue of “Buyer Beware”. “Ultimately it’s their decision,” he said.

“All we have done is put it (the north of Cyprus) out there and we’ll see what happens.”

Gannon said so far there had been some interest. He also said the company also planned to set up for the provision of mortgages for homes in the south of the island.
